Y Haití, ¿cómo esta?

Hoy se cumplen 5 meses desde el terremoto que agudizo los problemas socio-económicos en Haití. Cinco meses desde el desborde de compasión y el deseo de ayudar que sintió el mundo. Y a cinco meses, el mundo parece haber calmado su compasion y la ayuda disminuye. Y Haití, ¿cómo esta?

Nos gustaría escribir anunciando que los problemas socio-económicos y políticos en Haití se han erradicado. Pero no es así. Nos gustaría escribir para compartir que la ayuda enviada a Haití desde los diferentes pueblos del mundo llego a los mas necesitados/as. Pero no es así. No gustaría escribir que en Haití ya no hay necesidades. Pero no es así...todavia!

Una vez mas escribimos pidiendo de tu solidaridad para que renasca la esperanza en Haití. Te escribimos para invitarte a que nos acompañes en un esfuerzo a largo plazo al caminar con los/as niños/as de Leogane.

Como algunos/as de ustedes sabran, desde hace mas de cuatro años la Iglesia San Romero de Las Américas-UCC ha trabajado en apoyo a las comunidades Haitianas y Dominico-Haitianas en defensa de sus derechos y en apoyo a el trabajo en los bateyes que organiza MUDHA- Movimiento de Mujeres Dominico-Haitianas. A partir de Enero del 2010 nuestro trabajo solidario con MUDHA se fortalecido. Como iglesia hemos hecho jornadas recogiendo y empaquetando donaciones para Haití. Gracias a las donaciones que hemos recibido de la comunidad, hemos podido enviar donaciones económicas, comida seca, medicamentos, ropa, casas de campaña y artículos para niños/as.

Entendiendo que el trabajo solidario con Haití debe de ser consistente, persistente y relevante, la Iglesia San Romero de Las Américas-UCC se ha comprometido con la niñez de Leogane. Como iglesia estamos comprometidos/as a sentir y a caminar con el pueblo, y es por esto que con donaciones económicas, materiales educativos, y artículos para niños/as pretendemos contribuir con la re-construcción de un espacio digno para mas de 60 niños/as en la comunidad de Leogane.

En las próximas semanas estaremos poniendo a circular el libro Haití: rota pero de pie! Un libro de imágenes fotográficas que captura la realidad del pueblo Haitiano- un pueblo que fue sacudido, pero aun resiste y lucha para hacer renacer la esperanza. Las imágenes de este libro fueron capturadas por Rafael De los Santos, fotógrafo y miembro de la Iglesia San Romero de Las Américas- UCC quien ha estado trabajando de cerca con MUDHA en la coordinación del trabajo de colaboración a través de nuestro Ministerio Manos Solidarias. El dinero recaudado con la venta de este libro nos ayudara en la construcción de un espacio físico para las/s niñas/os de Leogane y la continuidad de nuestro trabajo solidario con MUDHA.

HOW IS HAITI?

Today marks five months since the earthquake that augmented the socio-economic problems in Haiti. It has been five months since the overwhelming feeling of compassion and desire to help Haiti that many of us felt around the world. And at five months, how is Haiti?

We wish we’d be writing to announce that all socio-economic and political problems in Haiti have been eradicated. That’s not the case. We would like to write to share that those who received all the donations people around the world sent were those with the most need. That’s not the case. We want to be able to say that all the needs have been covered in Haiti. That’s not the case…yet!

We write asking for your solidarity to contribute in the rebirth of hope in Haiti. We write inviting you to join us in a long-term effort to walk with the children of Leogane.

As some of you may know, San Romero de Las Americas Church-UCC has worked with MUDHA (Dominican-Haitian Women Movement) in the attempt to strengthen Dominican-Haitian relations, defend the rights of Haitians and Haitian-Dominicans and supporting MUDHA’s work in the Bateyes in the Dominican Republic for over four years. As of January 2010 our work with MUDHA has been strengthen in our solidarity work for Haiti’s relief and reconstruction efforts. As a church we have gathered, packed and shipped donations for Haiti. Thanks to the donations of the community we have been able to send economic donations, dried food, medicine, tents, and materials for children.

We understand that the solidarity work with Haiti must be consistent, persistent, and relevant, hence, San Romero de Las Americas Church is committed to work with the children of Leogane. As a church we must feel and walk with the people, and with the economic donations, educational materials and children’s items we will contribute to the reconstruction of a dignified physical space for more than 60 children in Leogane.

In the following weeks we will be launching Haiti: broken but standing! A book of photographic images capturing the reality of the Haitian people- a community that has been shaken, yet continues to resist and struggle to rebirth hope. The images in this book were captured by Rafael De los Santos, photographer and member of San Romero de Las Americas Church-UCC. He has been coordinating the solidarity efforts with MUDHA through the collaborative ministry Manos Solidarias. All proceeds will be used for the construction of physical space for the children in the orphanage of Leogane, and for the continued work in support of MUDHA.

We are hoping you will support in purchasing the book, but also helping us spread the word and coordinating events in different communities of the NYC area.
